In case where an employee wishes to bring a claim to the employment tribunal for unfair dismissal or wrongful dismissal, it might help you to bear the following costs estimates in mind

  • A simple claim is likely to cost you between £5000 and £15,000 plus VAT
  • A more complex claim is likely to cost between £10,000 and £25,000 plus VAT and involve the services of a barrister who will charge fees in addition to this amount
  • A very complex case is likely to cost £20,000 to £50,000 plus VAT and will involve barrister fees in addition to this estimate

For employees, it is worth checking whether such a claim might be covered by an insurance policy and finding out whether the insurance company will require you to use a panel solicitor to make use of the cover.
