Charities, Not for Profit & Religious Organisations

Charities and not-for-profit organisations are central to this firm’s practice. We advise on all aspects of charity law and practice.  Members of the charity team, many of whom are trustees of charities, have extensive experience of the charity sector.

We advise those seeking to establish new charities on charitable status issues, public benefit requirements and on the most appropriate models (for example trust, company, CIO).

We advise charity trustees on all aspects of governance and constitutional issues including the restructuring of charities (for example mergers), powers and duties of trustees, the incorporation of charity trustees and permanent endowment issues. We work across the firm to provide clients with the necessary advice on employment points and commercial issues such as the protection of intellectual property rights, funding arrangements, the involvement of commercial participators and professional fund-raisers.

We assist charities in their dealings with the Charity Commission with whom we retain a constructive relationship. We regularly undertake reviews of charities’ governing documents to ensure that the documents are fit for purpose and up-to-date at law.

Gerald Kidd leads the team.
