Andrew Brett

 

Biography

Andrew is a senior solicitor in the Employment and Dispute Resolution team. He has over 25 years’ experience in all aspects of dispute resolution, employment law, property disputes, contentious probate and professional negligence. Andrew has litigated at every level from the County Court to the High Court and at Tribunal level.

Andrew works with Michele Price on charity disputes, inquests, regulatory inquiries and professional disciplinary tribunals.

In employment cases, Andrew acts for both employer and employee on employment contracts, staff manuals and HR policies. On the contentious side, he advises on unfair dismissal, constructive dismissal, redundancy, grievances and settlement agreements.

Recent Experience

  • Successfully negotiating a settlement on a defended possession claim involving a Rent Act tenancy
  • Advising and assisting a medical practitioner in relation to contemplated disciplinary proceedings
  • Defending a claim for unfair dismissal of a former spouse 
  • Bringing a claim of professional negligence against a client’s former solicitors
  • Bringing a claim for constructive dismissal based upon the cumulative effect of a series of acts

Notable Cases

  • Bichay v Bassaly (2016, Chancery Divison): Andrew was the instructed solicitor for a three-day trial in the Chancery Division of proprietary estoppel and an unpaid vendor’s lien, involving financial transactions in California.

Employment History

After qualifying as a Solicitor in a West End Firm in 1993, Andrew practiced for many years in small-to-medium sized firms in the City, as well as a large north London firm, before joining PWW in July 2019.

Personal

Andrew enjoys cooking, playing badminton, watching rugby and is a long-suffering supporter of Huddersfield Town FC.
