Biography

Andy is a solicitor in the Churches and Charities team. He advises charities on the application of charity law and regulation. He regularly assists trustees with governance matters, such as amending a charity’s governing document, appointing or retiring new trustees and drafting policies. He has a wealth of experience in registering new charities, particularly charitable incorporated organisations. Andy’s skills as a draftsman are particularly sought after. As the administrator of a grant-making charity and with a background working at charities, he understands the need for practical advice.

Andy has been awarded the status of TEP by the Society of Trusts and Estates Practitioners (STEP) which is the gold standard qualification in this area of practice.

Recent Experience

  • Implementing the restructure of an international medical research charity. This involved amending the charity’s constitution, drafting the necessary resolutions and advising on the implications of the new membership structure
  • Registering a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) for a conservation organisation relocating from an African country. This was carried out to a tight timescale
  • The conversion of a Community Interest Company to a CIO for a public health organisation
  • Applying to the Charity Commission for a scheme to administer a charity where the governing document had been lost and no copies were retained.
